Scott G. Stephenson , CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT, AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Scott G. Stephenson is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Verisk Analytics, bringing more than 30 years of executive experience and a successful record of strategic leadership and innovation to the company. Scott’s focus on long-term value creation has enabled the company’s peer-leading financial growth. Since its initial public offering in 2009—the largest IPO that year—Verisk has increased its revenue at a compound annual growth rate of 10 percent.

Previously, Scott was appointed chairman of the board in 2016, CEO in 2013, and president in 2011. Starting in 2008, he served as chief operating officer for five years. Before joining Verisk, Scott was a senior partner with Boston Consulting Group. He also served as an advisor to Silver Lake Partners, a technology-oriented private equity firm.

In 2019, Forbes recognized Scott as one of America’s Most Innovative Leaders and, in 2018, as one of the top 25 Most Innovative Leaders worldwide. Forbes also named Verisk one of its World’s Best Employers (2018), an America’s Best Employers for Women (2018), and one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies (2015–2017). In 2015, Verisk was added to the S&P 500 Index, and Institutional Investor chose Scott as the number one CEO among sell-side analysts in the company’s industry category.

Under Scott’s leadership, the company introduced The Verisk Way—powerful principles to serve, add value, and innovate that guide how the company works with customers, employees, shareholders, and communities alike. Scott holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Supporting his commitment to community and social responsibility, Scott serves on several civic and charitable boards. He’s a member of the Board of Advisors at the Data Science Institute at the University of Virginia, where he and his wife established the Stephenson Chair in Data Science. He’s also vice chair of the Board of Directors for The Bowery Mission in New York City.

Mark V. Anquillare , EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Mark V. Anquillare is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Verisk Analytics. In his role as COO, Mr. Anquillare is responsible for overseeing Verisk’s property/casualty insurance businesses, including ISO, Xactware, AIR Worldwide, and Sequel. He also oversees Verisk’s Geomni and AER businesses. Mr. Anquillare is responsible for multiple corporate areas, including customer experience and government relations.

Mr. Anquillare joined Verisk’s ISO subsidiary in 1992 as director of financial systems. He was promoted to assistant vice president in 1994 and to vice president and controller in 2000. Mr. Anquillare was promoted to senior vice president and controller in 2005, to senior vice president and chief financial officer in 2007, to executive vice president and chief financial officer in 2011, and to executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2016.

Before joining ISO, Mr. Anquillare was employed at Prudential Financial. While at Prudential, he was involved in the life insurance business as well as property and casualty operations.

Mr. Anquillare is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he received a bachelor of business administration degree, and the Rutgers Graduate School of Management, where he received a master of business administration degree. He is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI).

Mr. Anquillare is active in the community and serves on the Rutgers Business School Advisory Board.

Nicholas Daffan , EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

Nicholas Daffan is executive vice president and chief information officer of Verisk Analytics. He is responsible for technology strategy, operations, and delivery of data and analytics.

Before his current role, Mr. Daffan was chief information officer of Argus Information and Advisory Services, where he was responsible for the Argus Data Operations, Product Support, and Information Technology groups.

Before that, Mr. Daffan led the launch of the two newest Argus Syndicated Studies, the Deposit Account Payment Study (in the United States) and the Current Account Benchmarking Study (in the United Kingdom). He joined Argus in 2000 and has more than 15 years of consulting and information technology experience in areas including database architecture, process design, and programming.

Before joining Argus, Mr. Daffan was at Unisys Corporation, where he led a team partnering with Microsoft to implement SQL Server into the very large database space. He also worked at First Manhattan Consulting Group, focusing on retail banking strategy, management information systems, and risk management.

Mr. Daffan holds a bachelor of science degree in finance from Pennsylvania State University.

Vincent de P. McCarthy , EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, VERISK ANALYTICS

As executive vice president at Verisk Analytics, Vince McCarthy’s role blends people, policy, and external relationships to create a winning culture that’s focused on growth, performance, and values. He ensures the alignment of Verisk’s leadership and talent development, human resources management, and global affairs, as well as policymaker and NGO engagement. Vince guides the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance goals and is focused on how the Verisk team can make the world better, safer, and stronger.

Previously, Vince was the group president of Verisk 3E, Verisk Financial Services, and Verisk Maplecroft. Before that, he led global corporate development and strategy for Verisk, identifying new business and investment opportunities to drive the company’s operational success and growth initiatives.

In this capacity, Vince expanded the company’s portfolio to include new customer verticals; he identified and executed mergers and acquisitions; and he drove the globalization of Verisk’s businesses. The company grew from approximately 4,000 employees to 9,000 team members during this time, and the experience reinforced Vince’s commitment to serve as a champion for a diverse and empowered workforce.

Before joining Verisk in 2009, Vince was a managing director of the Financial Technology Investment Banking group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He worked with clients worldwide in the media, technology, and financial services sectors, including payments and processing, financial technology, and data analytics. During his 15 years with the company, Vince held investment banking roles in Merrill Lynch’s New York and London offices.

Vince holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

Lee M. Shavel , EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Lee M. Shavel is executive vice president and chief financial officer of Verisk. He joined the company in 2017 and is responsible for Verisk’s corporate financial functions, including accounting, financial processes and systems, financial planning and analysis, and tax reporting. He oversees Verisk’s financial strategy, including the company’s treasury functions, investor relations, and capital structure.

Mr. Shavel also works closely with Verisk businesses to develop strategic plans, acquisition strategies, and financial performance objectives. He leads Verisk’s relationships with the debt and equity investment communities, including both buy-side institutional investors and sell-side research analysts.

Before joining Verisk, Mr. Shavel most recently served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Nasdaq, Inc., from 2011 to 2016. Before that, he served as managing director and Americas head of Financial Institutions Investment Banking and in other capacities at Bank of America Merrill Lynch from 1993 to 2011. Since 2016, he has served as a board director and chairman of the Audit Committee of Investment Technology Group, Inc.

Mr. Shavel graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, with a B.A. in English and a B.S. in economics from the Wharton School of Finance.

Kenneth E. Thompson , EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, GENERAL COUNSEL, AND CORPORATE SECRETARY

Kenneth E. Thompson is executive vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary of Verisk Analytics. He joined Verisk's ISO subsidiary as senior vice president and general counsel in 2006 and was promoted to executive vice president and general counsel in 2011. Mr. Thompson also directs the areas of human resources, internal audit, and facilities. He continues to provide leadership on corporate governance, which he capably oversaw during Verisk's IPO.

Mr. Thompson joined the company from McCarter & English, LLP, a regional law firm of more than 400 attorneys, with headquarters in New Jersey and offices in seven cities. He was chairman of the firm's Corporate, Securities, and Financial Institutions practice group and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. While at McCarter & English, Mr. Thompson specialized in mergers and acquisitions, securities law, corporate finance, and general corporate counseling.

Mr. Thompson has managed a number of major mergers and acquisitions outside the property/casualty arena. He has also advised public companies on their securities law responsibilities (including those under Sarbanes-Oxley) and on the implementation of various antitakeover defensive strategies. From 2000 to 2004, he taught mergers and acquisitions at Seton Hall Law School, where he was an adjunct professor of law.

Mr. Thompson earned his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law in 1984. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he graduated cum laude in 1981.

Yang Chen , HEAD OF CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT AND STRATEGY

Yang Chen is Verisk’s head of Corporate Development and Strategy, responsible for developing and implementing corporate strategies across Verisk’s businesses to drive growth and returns. In this capacity, Ms. Chen works closely with the senior management team in developing capital allocation plans and long-term strategic themes for the company and identifying new business opportunities in support of those themes. She leads Verisk’s mergers and acquisitions, investment, and strategic partnership activities globally.

Ms. Chen joined Verisk in 2013 as vice president, Corporate Development and Strategy, where she focused on mergers and acquisitions, investment, and partnership opportunities in markets outside the United States and newer market segments globally.

Before joining Verisk, Ms. Chen was an executive director in J.P. Morgan’s Investment Banking group, focusing on technology, media, and telecom clients. She advised major corporations in the United States and overseas on mergers and acquisitions transactions and capital raising.

Ms. Chen received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University.

Joanna Gassoso , CHIEF INTERNAL AUDITOR

Joanna Gassoso is chief internal auditor of Verisk Analytics. She is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the internal audit function and maintaining an independent and objective reporting relationship with the audit committee of the Board of Directors.

Ms. Gassoso has served in internal audit and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance roles for more than 17 years. Before joining Verisk, she was a vice president of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for Assured Guaranty, a leading provider of financial guaranty insurance. Before that, she was an audit manager at The MONY Group, in addition to several years in internal audit at Prudential Financial.

Ms. Gassoso holds a master of business administration degree with a concentration in finance and international business from the Rutgers Graduate School of Management and a bachelor of science degree in accounting with a minor in economics from The City University of New York. She has also earned the professional designation of Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

David J. Grover , CONTROLLER AND CHIEF ACCOUNTING OFFICER

David J. Grover is controller and chief accounting officer of Verisk Analytics. Mr. Grover joined Verisk’s ISO subsidiary in 2002 and was promoted to assistant controller in 2007. Before assuming his current role, Mr. Grover had been responsible for customer billing, accounts payable, and technical accounting, including external financial reporting and accounting due diligence for acquisition targets. Mr. Grover also played an integral role in Verisk’s initial public offering in 2009 and Verisk’s implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley Act controls and procedures.

Before joining ISO, Mr. Grover served as a Securities and Exchange Commission Practice Section technical manager at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2002. He began his career with Coopers & Lybrand / PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked as an auditor from 1995 through 2001.

Mr. Grover is a Certified Public Accountant and holds bachelor’s degrees in accounting and psychology from the University of Maine.

Melissa Hendricks , SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

Melissa Hendricks is senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Verisk Analytics. As CMO, Ms. Hendricks oversees the company’s marketing and design services, corporate communications, and marketing communications. Her responsibilities include branding and go-to-market strategy, social media, media and public relations, e-commerce and websites, events and travel, and alumni relations.

Before joining Verisk, Ms. Hendricks served as vice president, Worldwide Marketing and Communications for Cerner Corporation, where she was responsible for the stewardship of the Cerner brand across domestic and global markets as well as all corporate marketing functions, including creative and campaigns, demand generation, content marketing, media relations, executive communications, thought leadership, reputation management, social marketing, content marketing and strategy, and operations.

Previously at Cerner, Ms. Hendricks served as vice president, Marketing Strategy and Corporate Communications, responsible for the corporate brand, digital experience, market intelligence, industry partnerships, and internal communications. She has led multiple projects, including rebranding of the corporate identity and the redesign of Cerner’s digital presence. Before joining Cerner, Ms. Hendricks served in various marketing, brand, and account management roles in the consumer packaged goods and pharmaceuticals industries.

Ms. Hendricks received her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Missouri – Columbia and an M.B.A. from Rockhurst University.
Ms. Hendricks has been an active volunteer in her community and serves on various boards of not-for-profit organizations and schools.

Mark S. Magath , SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

Mark S. Magath is Verisk's senior vice president, risk and compliance. He joined the company in 2004 as the director of information technology audit and became chief internal auditor in 2005. In that role, he reengineered internal audit into a risk-based assurance and consulting function. When Verisk went public, he led the company's Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program.

Mr. Magath is responsible for providing proactive leadership and oversight — at the enterprise level — for implementation and delivery of effective and appropriate compliance and risk mitigation services. His responsibilities include information privacy and security risk management services; compliance; and delivery and support for enterprise governance, risk, and compliance (eGRC) systems.

Mr. Magath has served in internal audit roles for more than 30 years. Before joining Verisk, he was an assistant vice president of internal audit for The MONY Group, where he provided coverage for insurance servicing, actuarial, underwriting, policy issuance, accounting, product development, corporate compliance, and the information technology shared services organization. Mr. Magath has also held audit management positions with CityFed Financial Corporation, Allied Signal Corporation, and Citibank N.A.

Mr. Magath holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has also earned the professional designation of Certified Information Systems Auditor.

Patrick McLaughlin , SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER

Patrick McLaughlin is senior vice president and chief sustainability officer of Verisk Analytics. Since 2014, he has worked with leadership and employees across the company to create the environmental, social, and governance framework underlying Verisk’s corporate social responsibility program.

Mr. McLaughlin brings many years of Verisk and ISO experience to the position. He began in government affairs, representing the interests of the company and its customers with state regulators. He served as special assistant to the president during the period leading to ISO’s conversion to a for-profit entity in the mid-1990s. From 1996 to 2008, Mr. McLaughlin and his management team led the financial and operational turnaround of ISO’s national property services business — introducing new products and services, implementing quality and performance incentives for field staff, and publishing first-ever public opinion research demonstrating how ISO’s municipal fire grading activities benefit communities throughout the nation. In 2009, he led the company’s Information Systems & Technology operation during the search for a permanent executive.

Mr. McLaughlin holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and earned a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from New York Law School. He practiced law with the former New York firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Leiby and MacRae and also worked as an elementary school teacher and coach. He has broad experience as an active volunteer in the community, with local government, and as a trustee for various not-for-profit organizations and schools.

Mr. McLaughlin is a steward of the Verisk Leadership Institute and regularly serves as a mentor to executives participating in Verisk’s Leadership Excellence Program.

Vikas Vats , CHIEF ANALYTICS OFFICER, VERISK ANALYTICS

Vikas Vats is chief analytics officer at Verisk, supporting the company’s business verticals in their analytic efforts; ensuring that Verisk’s analytic capabilities, methods, and community are world-class and always improving; and driving the commercialization of new products.

Mr. Vats also leads Verisk’s Innovative Analytics, Joint Development Environment, and Verisk AI teams, creating new solutions using data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to bring innovative products to market. He has particular interest in cognitive analytics and the advancement of the company’s AI-based analytics solutions.

Previously, Mr. Vats was vice president of analytics solutions for Verisk. His entrepreneurial and executive experience span data analytics, insurance, life sciences, telecom, and the oil and gas industries, including product and engineering roles at Motorola, field engineering at Schlumberger, and entrepreneurial leadership roles at marketRx and Medmeme.

Mr. Vats received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and his master of business administration degree in marketing, management strategy, and entrepreneurship from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Board of Directors

Annell R. Bay ,  

Annell R. Bay has more than 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industries. She most recently served as vice president of global exploration for Marathon Oil Corporation, from June 2008 until her retirement in April 2014. In May 2014, Ms. Bay was appointed an independent director to the board of Apache Corporation in Houston, Texas. In 2015, she was appointed an independent director to the Board of Hunting PLC in London, United Kingdom. And in August 2016, she was appointed an independent director to the Board of Verisk Analytics in New Jersey.

Ms. Bay has extensive experience in exploration of conventional and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs and in portfolio risk management. She was previously vice president of Americas exploration for Shell Exploration and Production Company and vice president of worldwide exploration at Kerr-McGee Oil and Gas Corporation. Earlier, Ms. Bay held positions in operations and applied research at Chevron, Sohio, and Oryx Energy.

Ms. Bay serves on the Advisory Council for the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, the Corporate Advisory Committee for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Advisory Board for the Energy Education Center for the Independent Petroleum Association of America. In 2012, she was named one of the 100 Women Leaders in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The following year, she received the BioHouston award for Women in Science with Excellence (WISE).

Frank J. Coyne ,  

Frank J. Coyne has served as one of our directors since 2002 and served as our independent Lead Director from April 2016 to May 2019. Previously, Mr. Coyne served as the Chairman of our Board from 2002 until April 2016 and served as our Chief Executive Officer from 2002 until his retirement in April 2013. From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Coyne served as our President and Chief Executive Officer and he served as our President and Chief Operating Officer from 1999 to 2000. Mr. Coyne joined the Company from Kemper Insurance Cos., where he was Executive Vice President, Specialty and Risk Management Groups. Previously, he served in a variety of positions with General Accident Insurance and was elected its President and Chief Operating Officer in 1991. He has also held executive positions with Lynn Insurance Group, Reliance Insurance Co. and PMA Insurance Co. Mr. Coyne also serves on the Board of Directors of Strategic CAT Holdings LLC, a privately-held independent adjusting company, the Board of Trustees of Underwriters Laboratories, and the Board of Directors of Duquesne University. In assessing Mr. Coyne’s skills and qualifications to serve on our Board, our directors considered the in-depth operations and management experience and knowledge gained by Mr. Coyne as Chief Executive Officer of Verisk from 2002 until his retirement in 2013.

Christopher M. Foskett , LEAD DIRECTOR

Christopher M. Foskett is lead independent director of the board of Verisk Analytics and has served as one of our directors since 1999. Mr. Foskett currently serves as a member of the Management Committee of First Data Corporation and also oversees Corporate and Business Development at First Data Corporation. From 2011 to April 2014, Mr. Foskett served as the Managing Director — Co-Head of North American Banking and Global Head of Sales for Treasury Services at JPMorgan Chase Bank. He was Managing Director — Global Head of Financial Institutions of National Australia Bank from 2008 to 2011 and Managing Director and Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group in Citigroup’s Corporate Bank from 2007 to 2008. From 2003 to 2007, Mr. Foskett was Head of Sales and Relationship Management for Citigroup Global Transaction Services. He also served as Global Industry Head for the Insurance and Investment Industries in Citigroup’s Global Corporate Bank from 1999 to 2003. Previously, he held various roles in Citigroup’s mergers and acquisitions group. In assessing Mr. Foskett’s skills and qualifications to serve on our Board, our directors considered his more than 30 years in the banking and financial services industries, and experience gained as a senior executive with global financial institutions.

Bruce Hansen ,  

Bruce Hansen has served as one of our directors since May 2015. From 2002 to 2012, Mr. Hansen served as Chairman and CEO of ID Analytics, a company he co-founded in 2002. Prior to that, Mr. Hansen served as President of HNC Software, Inc., a publicly traded company. Mr. Hansen has also held executive roles at CASA Inc., CitiGroup, ADP and JPMorgan Chase. Mr. Hansen currently serves on the Board of Directors of two publicly traded companies, Performant Financial Corporation and MITEK Systems Inc., as well as one privately held company, RevSpring, Inc. Mr. Hansen is also an active member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. In assessing Mr. Hansen’s skills and qualifications to serve on our Board, our directors considered his management and operations experience gained as a senior executive of multiple data analytics businesses, as well as his experience gained by his current and past service on other public company boards.

Kathleen Hogenson ,  

Kathy Hogenson is an accomplished executive and entrepreneur with more than 30 years of energy experience. She serves on the board of Petrofac Limited, a FTSE 250 company with more than 24 offices worldwide. Petrofac provides large-scale oil and gas facilities to a majority of OPEC countries, the U.K. energy sector, and others. Ms. Hogenson has served on the boards of Samsung Oil & Gas USA and Parallel Petroleum, an oil and gas firm based in Midland, Texas. She is also a former treasurer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Ms. Hogenson is president and chief executive officer of Zone Oil & Gas, LLC, providing advisory and valuation services in energy. Before that, she was president and chief executive officer of Zone Energy, LLC, a company she founded and sold in 2015.

Previously, Ms. Hogenson was president of Santos USA Corporation and vice president of exploration and production technology for Unocal Corporation. At Unocal, she was named the company’s global chief reservoir engineer, overseeing engineers and engineering work products at various locations.

Constantine P. Iordanou ,  

Constantine P. Iordanou has served as one of our directors since 2001. Mr. Iordanou has been president and chief executive officer of Arch Capital Group Limited, or ACGL, since August 2003 and director of ACGL since January 2002. From January 2002 through July 2003, he was chief executive officer of Arch Capital (U.S.) Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ACGL. Before joining ACGL in 2002, Mr. Iordanou served in various capacities for Zurich Financial Services and its affiliates, including as senior executive vice president of group operations and business development of Zurich Financial Services, president of Zurich-American Specialties Division, chief operating officer and chief executive officer of Zurich American, and chief executive officer of Zurich North America. Before joining Zurich in March 1992, he was president of the commercial casualty division of the Berkshire Hathaway Group and senior vice president of American Home Insurance Company, a member of American International Group.

Laura K. Ipsen ,  

Laura K. Ipsen has more than 25 years of experience as a technology executive. She is currently president and chief executive officer of Ellucian, which provides technology solutions and services that power more than 2,700 higher education institutions in more than 50 countries.

Previously, Ms. Ipsen was general manager and senior vice president for Oracle Marketing Cloud, leading all customer-facing aspects of the business. Before that, she was corporate vice president of Microsoft’s worldwide public sector organization, serving government, education, and public healthcare customers in more than 100 countries.

Her experience also includes more than a decade at Cisco Systems, where she spearheaded an effort to transform how the world manages energy supplies and built smart-grid solutions for utilities around the world. During her time with Cisco, Ms. Ipsen established the company’s global policy and government affairs division, with a focus on Cisco’s policy related to the Internet as well as adoption of broadband access. She also held leadership roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Acer America, and Hitachi Data Systems.

Ms. Ipsen served as a member of the Monsanto board of directors from 2010 until 2018, when it was acquired by Bayer. She is also the former chair of the board of the Washington, D.C.–based Information Technology Industry Council.

Samuel G. Liss ,  

Samuel G. Liss has served as one of our directors since 2005. Mr. Liss is the principal of WhiteGate Partners LLC, a financial services advisory firm. He is also an adjunct professor of finance and business at the New York University Stern School of Business. He served as executive vice president at The Travelers Companies from 2004 to 2010 and continues there as an advisor. Before the merger of The St. Paul and Travelers, Mr. Liss served as executive vice president at The St. Paul from February 2003 to April 2004. From 1994 to 2001, he was a managing director at Credit Suisse First Boston, or CSFB, where he initially focused on equity research across a range of financial institution sectors. He subsequently served in a senior role in CSFB’s Financial Institutions Group, where he led the asset management industry practice. Mr. Liss was a senior equity analyst at Salomon Brothers from 1980 to 1994. He serves on the Board of Directors of DST Systems, Inc.

Andrew G. Mills ,  

Andrew G. Mills has served as one of our directors since 2002. Mr. Mills has been executive chairman and president of Archegos Capital Management since June 2014 and is also the cochairman of the Grace & Mercy Foundation. Mr. Mills served as the interim president of The King’s College in New York, New York, from October 2012 to July 2013 and from May 2007 to December 2008; he was also chairman of its Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2014. Mr. Mills is the former chairman of Intego Solutions LLC, which he founded in 2000. He previously served as chief executive officer of The Thomson Corporation’s Financial and Professional Publishing unit and as a member of Thomson’s Board of Directors. In 1984, he led the start-up operations of Business Research Corporation and was responsible for overseeing its sale and integration into The Thompson Corporation. Mr. Mills began his career with Courtaulds Ltd. and joined The Boston Consulting Group in 1979. He is on the Board of Directors of Camp of the Woods and is cochairman of the Theology of Work Project. He is also a member of the Massachusetts State Board of the Salvation Army.

Scott G. Stephenson , CHAIRMAN, PRESIDENT, AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Scott G. Stephenson is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Verisk Analytics, bringing more than 30 years of executive experience and a successful record of strategic leadership and innovation to the company. Scott’s focus on long-term value creation has enabled the company’s peer-leading financial growth. Since its initial public offering in 2009—the largest IPO that year—Verisk has increased its revenue at a compound annual growth rate of 10 percent.

Previously, Scott was appointed chairman of the board in 2016, CEO in 2013, and president in 2011. Starting in 2008, he served as chief operating officer for five years. Before joining Verisk, Scott was a senior partner with Boston Consulting Group. He also served as an advisor to Silver Lake Partners, a technology-oriented private equity firm.

In 2019, Forbes recognized Scott as one of America’s Most Innovative Leaders and, in 2018, as one of the top 25 Most Innovative Leaders worldwide. Forbes also named Verisk one of its World’s Best Employers (2018), an America’s Best Employers for Women (2018), and one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies (2015–2017). In 2015, Verisk was added to the S&P 500 Index, and Institutional Investor chose Scott as the number one CEO among sell-side analysts in the company’s industry category.

Scott holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Supporting his commitment to community and social responsibility, Scott serves on several civic and charitable boards. He’s a member of the Board of Advisors at the Data Science Institute at the University of Virginia, where he and his wife established the Stephenson Chair in Data Science. He’s also vice chair of the Board of Directors for The Bowery Mission in New York City.

Therese M. Vaughan ,  

Therese M. Vaughan became one of our directors in 2013. Dr. Vaughan has served as the dean of Drake College of Business since September 2014 and was interim dean from June 2014 to September 2014. From 2009 to 2012, Dr. Vaughan was chief executive officer of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Previously, she served as Iowa’s commissioner of insurance and as president of the NAIC. She has also held a variety of positions in academia and regulation. She was the Robb B. Kelley Distinguished Professor of Insurance and Actuarial Science at Drake University, where she focused on the regulation and management of financial institutions. She is the coauthor of two college textbooks on insurance. Dr. Vaughan is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS), and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). The Association of Professional Insurance Women (APIW) selected Dr. Vaughan as the 2014 recipient of the Insurance Woman of the Year Award. Since May 2013, she has served on the Board of Directors of Validus Holdings, Ltd., a reinsurance company, and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She previously served on the Board of Directors of Principal Financial Group, Inc., and Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd.

David B. Wright ,  

David B. Wright has served as one of our directors since 1999. Since August 2014, Mr. Wright has served as managing partner of Innovative Capital Ventures, Inc. From July 2012 to May 2014, he was chief executive officer of ClearEdge Power, a privately held company; and from February 2010 to July 2011, he served as the executive vice chairman and chief executive officer of GridIron Systems. Mr. Wright was chairman and chief executive officer of Verari Systems from 2006 to 2009. Before joining Verari Systems, he was executive vice president, Office of the CEO, Strategic Alliances and Global Accounts, at EMC Corporation from 2004 to 2006. Between 2001 and 2004, Mr. Wright was chairman and chief executive officer of Legato Systems; and from 1997 to 2000, he was president and chief executive officer of Amdahl Corporation. Mr. Wright formerly served on the Board of Directors of ClearEdge Power, GridIron Systems, ActivIdentity Corp., Aspect Communications Corp., Boole and Babbage Inc., and GeekNet, Inc.
